Background

Robinson Poffo, MD, MSc,  Brazilian cardiovascular surgeon. Medical degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (1992), followed by Cardiovascular Surgery Residency at Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Curitiba (1993–1996). Advanced training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA (1997), and a Master’s degree in Surgical Sciences from the Federal University of Paraná (2000) in Brazil.

Currently Director of the Poffo Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery and Head of the Cardiac Surgery Center at Hospital Moriah, São Paulo, Brazil, and a robotic cardiac surgeon at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein - SP, Brazil.

Clinical practice includes adult cardiac surgery and heart transplantation, with particular emphasis on mitral valve repair and robotic cardiac procedures. Pioneered the periareolar access for minimally invasive cardiac surgery and introduced minimally invasive video-assisted cardiac surgery in Brazil following training in Leipzig, Germany. In March 2010, performed the first robotic cardiac surgery in Latin America using the da Vinci Surgical System.
